A14 roadworks - junctions 38 (Newmarket) to 43 (Bury St Edmunds)
National Highways plan to close the A14 to carry out resurfacing, replace faded road markings and road studs, erect new safety barriers and put up new road signs. Once complete, drivers will benefit from a smoother, better defined road.
They plan to complete this work over four months starting on Monday 8 November until 7 March 2022, subject to weather conditions.
Road closures and diversions
To carry out their work safely, the eastbound or westbound carriageway needs to be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am. Both carriageways will not be closed at the same time.
They will close the eastbound carriageway between junctions 38 (Newmarket/Snailwell) and 42 (Fornham/Westley) each night from Monday 8 November until Saturday 4 December, excluding Sundays.
All traffic will be diverted off the A14 at junction 38 to follow the A11, the B1106, London Road, Elvedon Road, Station Road and the A134 to then re-join the A14 at junction 43.
The westbound carriageway will then be closed between junctions 43 and 38 each night from Monday 6 December until 7 March 2022, excluding Sundays and the Christmas period, 21 December to 4 January 2022.
All traffic will be diverted off the A14 at junction 43 (Bury St Edmunds/A143) to follow the A134 to Thetford, to then join the A11 to re-join the A14 at junction 38.
